Hillcrest High School senior Maximilian Carmicle has officially signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Purdue University, marking a major milestone for both Carmicle and the Hillcrest football program.
Carmicle, who plays defensive line at the edge position, described the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level as both humbling and meaningful — especially as one of the first members of his family to play sports at the college level.
“This means a lot to me and my family,” Carmicle said. “It’s humbling, especially being injured right now, but it’s an amazing opportunity. I’m grateful to be able to play at the next level.”
Carmicle’s football journey at Hillcrest began later than most. He did not play football his freshman year, instead focusing on basketball. He joined the football program as a sophomore and steadily developed into a team leader, crediting his coaches for helping him grow both on and off the field.
“My coaches really got me to where I am,” Carmicle said. “Even when I thought I couldn’t do it, people like Keith Franklin and Coach Houston believed in me and pushed me.”
During his high school career, Carmicle primarily played defensive line, adding tight end responsibilities during his senior season. While statistics don’t fully capture his impact, Carmicle emphasized leadership as his most important role on the team.
“Supporting my teammates, even when we were down — that’s what mattered most to me.”
Carmicle chose Purdue University for its strong academic reputation and the sense of community he felt from the coaching staff.
“They have an amazing education, and that’s important to me,” he said. “Life isn’t just football. The coaches made me feel at home.”
He plans to pursue a major in finance and is eager to continue competing at a high level while preparing for life beyond athletics.
Hillcrest High School also played a significant role in Carmicle’s development, he said, crediting teachers, faculty, and staff for their continued encouragement—especially during challenging moments.
“There are so many amazing people here,” Carmicle said. “Even small things—like someone believing in you when you’re down—make a big difference.”
Hillcrest High School congratulates Maximilian Carmicle on his commitment to Purdue University and looks forward to watching his continued success at the collegiate level.
