Students in Material Processing this morning were creating a billet of mokume gane! This is something that originated in Japan 400 years ago. Students worked with the forge in class after stacking alternative metals between steel plates! #hillcresthawkpride




Brian Johnson, culinary student of Mrs. Sweeney, surprised her with a cutting board he created in his Woods Class. The cutting board is absolutely gorgeous and brought Mrs. Sweeney to tears when he gave it to her! Thanks for being so kind and thoughtful Brian! #hillcresthawkpride

Students from the Hillcrest High School Sophomore Leadership Program attended the 2023 Illinois High School Associations Student Leadership Conference. Students travelled to East Peoria and were actively engaged in both the keynote speaker's presentation and the Student Advisory Committee's breakout sessions on Leadership, Social Media Usage, and Time Management. Students reported having learned about different leadership types, ways to manage stress and their time, along with safe and effective usage of social media. Students definitely left the conference with new ideas and lessons that they could apply to their lives both inside and outside of school. #hillcresthawkpride

Students from Ms. Tate's Anatomy and Forensics courses visited the cadaver lab at Moraine Valley CC. Students rotated to different lab stations of human cadavers that current Moraine Valley and other area University students are utilizing in their studies to learn the diverse systems of the human body. The college students thoroughly explained their specific system or organ(s) of the body they were responsible for studying, allowing Hillcrest students to visually understand the concepts they have been studying in their classroom and interact. After the cadaver lab tour, students also toured the different buildings and resources within the campus. #hillcresthawkpride

Students from Mr. Ramel's Accounting class attended a guest speaker who is an actual CPA. Jason Treadwell (Treadwell Consulting Group) spoke to the students about possible Accounting careers and the career field as a whole. Students also were able to ask questions to Jason about the curriculum that we have learned so far including journal entries, general ledger entries and cash flow.
Jason owns his own Consulting Group and is a CPA in the area. He previously worked for Deloitte, which is considered 1 of the Big 4 Accounting firms in the nation. #hillcresthawkpride


District 228 Fine and Performing Arts students participated in the Chicagoland 4X5 Art Show on Wednesday, November 8. Students from all four of our district schools participated, and the district as a whole scored four honorable mentions for student work!

District 228 is hosting STEM Night again! The events will be held at both Oak Forest HS and Hillcrest HS on November 28, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This event is family friendly and fun for people of all ages! Check out the flyer below for additional information, and we hope to see you there!

The Bridge Teen Center is an innovative, nonprofit community center that is designed around the interest and needs of teens. It provides free programs during after school and unsupervised hours where students can just be themselves in a safe and fun environment.
