
Hillcrest Art students rehabbed old library chairs and created an Art display with the help of their amazing Art teacher, Mrs. Adebesin Mason. Thanks to the grant awarded from the BHSD Educational Foundation to develop blacksmithing into the curriculum here at Hillcrest, Material Processing students unboxed a brand new anvil from Holland Anvil today! It will be used to develop the skills needed to craft art and tools out of various metals. These skills can then be passed on to future generations, keeping one of the older and more obscure trades alive and thriving! #hillcesthawkpride






Hillcrest Junior students participated in a "Junior Impact Day". Speakers from SIU, Elmhurst, Lewis University, Ferris State and Michigan State provided students with information on college applications as well as how to apply for scholarships. Senior students enrolled in Culinary classes participated in a scholarship baking competition. Lisa Wunar, former Hillcrest Athletic Director, generously donated $1,500 in honor of her mother, Marylin. Students were required to bake two of Marylin's famous cookies within a two hour time frame for judges to vote on. Congratulations to Jamia and Muijdat on winning the scholarship money and a special thank you to Lisa Wunar for providing this amazing opportunity! #hillcresthawkpride



On Saturday, April 6, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) will host a Youth Opportunities Fair at Hillcrest High School to connect students with year-round and summer opportunities - including employment, internships, volunteering, and various service programs for youth of all ages. The event is free for all attendees, and is open to the public.

Art students viewed the work of their fellow classmates at the Museum of Science and Industry’s Black Creativity Exhibition. Juniors, Kaliyah Short and Kayla Thurmond as well as Senior Jakemah Calhoun, will have their work on display until April. #hillcresthawkpride

Hillcrest science courses welcomed an awesome guest from southern Illinois on Thursday! Kim has grown up on a farm and is a third generation farmer. She and her family work tirelessly every year to provide essential crops. While visiting Hillcrest on Thursday, she told students all about the process of farming, the pros and cons, the day-to-day, and why its such an important part of making the world go round. We thank her for making the long journey out here to Hillcrest!




Today student's from Hillcrest attended a Field Trip to Paxton Patterson (supplier for Career Practicum). Paxton Patterson is offering summer internships for students interested in Warehouse Assembly, Warehouse Picker, and Office Workers. Students had an opportunity to take a tour of the facility and take part in each of these jobs to see if it would be a good fit. Students were then given an opportunity to fill out applications right on site to be considered for a summer position that could lead to full time employment. #hillcresthawkpride








Criminal Law students attended the Criminal Justice Auto Show. Hillcrest students did an excellent job engaging in the Q&A discussion portion with local law enforcement agencies. They were also able to explore various police vehicles and technologies used by officers and various task forces, engage with the police dogs, etc. It was chilly outside, but these students represented the Hawks well! Students from the Building Trades class went to the Building and Fire Code Academy today to learn about becoming an Inspector. It was a great opportunity to see an avenue less traveled as a career in the Building Trades. #hillcresthawkpride

Bremen High School District 228 hosted its first-ever Battle of the Books competition at Oak Forest High School on Friday! Each school in D228 sent a team of passionate readers who read a number of books for the competition, battling for the chance to win a district trophy. Congratulations to our Hillcrest Hawks for being named our first-ever champions!
